Below, you can find the weekly objectives that are done in the classroom, homework for the week, as well as extra resources that will enhance the students' knowledge about science. By the end of the school year, the first graders should feel confident with the following subjects of discussion: the plant cycle, classifying animals, the solar system, and weather.
Objectives for the Week:
Monday 12/13: The first grade student will be able to work independently to plant a seed in a Ziplock bag that is filled with dirt with 100% accuracy.
Tuesday 12/14: The first grade student will be able to work in a small group to answer discussion questions that correspond with an informational text about plants with 80% accuracy.
Wednesday 12/15: The first grade student will be able to work with a partner to label the multiple parts of a plant with 90% accuracy.
Thursday 12/16: The first grade student will be able to work independently to create a spinner out of paper that demonstrates the life cycle of a plant with 80% accuracy.
Friday 12/17: The first grade student will be able to work independently to write a paragraph about their observations of the seed they had planted on Monday 12/13 with 100% accuracy.

Homework for the Week:
Monday 12/13: Write 3 sentences explaining what you think will happen to your seed that you planted in the next four days.
Tuesday 12/14: Illustrate one of your favorite plants that was talked about in class today and write one fact about that plant.
Wednesday 12/15: Create flashcards for each part of a plant and describe all of their purposes.
Thursday 12/16: Sort the life cycle of a plant in chronological order.
Friday 12/17: Have a great weekend :)

Extra Resources for Science:
At home experiments
Teaching Expertise lists thirty-five fun, easy experiments for first graders.
Although the procedures and materials are not listed for each experiment,
there is a URL to each project that goes into more detail. The experiments
provide more background knowledge on scientific ideologies, that will
most likely be discussed this school year.

Ecosystems for Kids
Ecosystem for Kids is an interactive website for students in grades 1-6.
This resource provides worksheets, practice assessments, as well as
games. Common topics found under the 1st grade section include human
anatomy, plants, and animals.
Generation Genius
Generation Genius creates entertaining videos that teach students about
numerous science topics. A few of his most popular videos include: The 5
Senses, Introduction to Light, Introduction to Sound, Parts of a Plant, and
Living vs. Nonliving Things.
Virtual Field Trip
Go to the San Diego Zoo virtually and explore the different exhibits.
Viewers can choose different animals to watch live on camera. Students
can observe the behaviors and characteristics of these animals in order
to learn more about the animal kingdom, which is being taught this
year!
