Students have been learning about the Earth's Layers and the movement of the crustal plates. A notebook check will be done tomorrow to check pages 32 and 33.
Monday, November 4, 2013
Welcome back! Students did some reading about the layers of the Earth today and created a mini-book on page 33 to organize the information they learned. No Homework.
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
Students have been learning about earthquakes and the connection between earthquakes and seafloor features. No Homework.

Students have been working hard designing experiments and building paper rockets this week. Tomorrow is launch day for 6th period. The seventh period class will begin their rocket build and hopefully be ready to launch on Friday! I am excited to see how things work out and what students take away from the experience. No Homework
Monday, October 7, 2013
Today we started our week long rocket launch investigation. Students will be applying the skills they have been learning and practicing to the development of an experiment. Homework tonight was to finish writing the procedure steps for the experiment.
Seventh period is a day behind everyone else because of the assembly a couple of weeks ago so they worked on making graphs today. Homework was to complete the graph started in class and answer the questions.
Monday, September 30, 2013
Today students were given their notebooks, notebook grades and quizzes back. They had time in class to correct the questions they missed on the quiz to earn back some of the points. They have this week to make all of the corrections to their notebooks. I will check them again for the corrections on Monday, October 7. The notebook is 40% of the science grade so students need to take their time, make them neat, and complete all of the work.
Wednesday, September 25, 2013
Today we took a quiz on variables and began notes on graphing. Graphing sheet is on the class work page.
Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Today we did some more practice with variables. Homework is writing a letter to an elementary student explaining variables in language and using examples that they would understand. The letter should be written on page 22 of the notebook.
Thursday, September 19, 2013
Homework tonight is to complete page 3 of the Designing a Fair Test sheet students received yesterday. They are to design a test based on a TV commercial claim that one cleaner is better than all the others.
Wednesday, September 18, 2013
Today we learned about the requirements for a fair test. Students practiced identifying characteristics of an experiment that made it fair and unfair. The homework was to read the example of the unfair test and highlight or underline the characteristics students identified that make the test unfair.
Friday, September 13, 2013
There is no homework this weekend. We are continuing to investigate variables in experiments. Next week students will have the opportunity to select their own variables in the penny water investigation and begin applying what they have learned.
Tuesday, September 10, 2013
Students were assigned an "Old West" wanted poster project on Monday. The details of the project can be found under the homework tab. The project is due Friday, Sep. 13. Today we started learning about variables. The notes and PowerPoint from today can be found under the classwork tab. Make sure your notebook is up to date by checking the Notebook Table of Contents on this page.

The past several days students have been working on creating the "Aha Connections" pages and completing The Mystery Box. Today we took notes about observations, inferences and predictions. We did some in class practice and students were given a homework sheet for additional practice.
Thursday, August 29, 2013
Today we began our first scientific investigation, "The Mystery Box." We didn't have time to finish so we will be coming back to this when students return on Tuesday. Have a great 4 day weekend! NO HOMEWORK
Wednesday, August 28, 2013
Today students focused on completing the organization necessary for using their science notebooks. Homework tonight is to finish gluing in the introductory pages, read and highlight key information, and get parent/guardian signatures on the notebook guidelines page.
Tuesday, August 27, 2013
Today we focused on introductions. Students received their science notebooks today. Homework tonight is to number all of the notebook pages. The left-side pages are the odd pages, the right-side pages are the even pages. Students should end with page 140 if they have numbered correctly.
Monday, August 26, 2013
The following documents were assigned as homework. Students are to read the syllabus and safety contract with their parent/guardian, sign the documents and return them to class on Tuesday.
